June 2024
“June gloom” is already here, and we have the perfect pairing to brighten up our coastal foggy days. So let’s get ready for the sunnier days of summer to come with these two fabulous French wines! We’ve chosen a liter for the skin contact orange, along with a fan-favorite cab franc, perfect to sip and savor as we ease into summer!
“Couple Goals”, Sebastien David: Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay (2022)
From the Torraine region of the Loire Valley in France, this medium-bodied skin contact wine is structured and refreshing. Sebastien calls this “Couple Goals”, because opposites really do attract in this case, a vibrant Chenin Blanc with a voluptuous Chardonnay. Its stone fruit, black tea, and citrusy textured aromatics is a sure crowd pleaser for any gathering of guests, so grill up a fish and some summer vegetables and enjoy this liter of pure French magic.
“Hurluberlu”, Sebastien David: Cabernet Franc (2022)
Hurluberlu (translates to eccentric, weirdo) is vibrant cherry-red in color. The David family has been making wine in the Loire Valley since 1634, making Sebastien 15th generation winemaker. This beautiful Cabernet Franc is made from 70-90 year old vines, grown in limestone and clay soils with little gravel. This combination is the best home for Cab Franc to thrive, and this cherry-red, unfiltered, fresh bottle is an example of just that. Aromas of blackcurrants, raspberries and plums. It is crunchy and fresh, with soft acidity. Best served chilled, and is the perfect summer wine paired with charcuterie!
